Summary of Functional Accomplishments
Financial management / Cost controls
• Positioned Frontier Airlines for emergence from bankruptcy through acquisition by Republic Airways.
• Teamed with Controller for meeting financial reporting requirements at Mesa Airlines. Led quarterly cost analysis and target setting at Mesa Airlines.
• Led Flexjet to first profit in its 10 year history with 55% inventory reduction and improved unit revenue. Positioned division for possible sale.
• Led Eagle supplier negotiations for voluntary concessions post 9/11 to avert AMR bankruptcy.
• Developed and managed route profitability system for American’s 2500+ daily flights founded on activity-based costing principles. Established disciplined, cross-departmental process of performance review and planned improvement.
• Set up finance department at SABRE given mandate to establish division as stand-alone business unit.
• Met departmental cost reduction budget guidelines at Frontier Airlines, Mesa Airlines, Flexjet, American Eagle Airlines, and American Airlines.
• Led a series of initiatives to reduce costs at American Airlines, in conjunction with outside consultants, including GE, McKinsey, and Boston Consulting Group.
Labor
• Met quarterly with American’s pilot union to discuss contract obligations, operational issues and future plans, during period of cutbacks and furloughs for American.
• Responsible for financial analysis of labor contract proposals during negotiations with American’s pilots, flight attendants, and ground workers. Evaluated benefits to AA of lower new hire payscale – which was not matched by the industry and which allowed AA to more than double in size.
• Acquired and marketed a new airline code (“AX”) to reduce regional flying under the AA code, which had been subject to contract limits during furlough period for American pilots.
